Irmo voters will decide who will be the mayor Nov. 5.

The 3 candidates are incumbent Mayor Hardy King, Town Council member Barry Walker and political newcomer Mike Ward.

Mayor Hardy King said, “The most important election issue is whether we will move forward as a town or backward. Irmo needs to be appealing for younger families to come live here.”

This is Walker’s 3rd run for mayor. Barryformayor.com states he is in favor of impact fees to pay for increased cost of new residents. Walker also wants more police officers on bikes and foot patrols to develop relationships with citizens.

Mike Ward is a licensed health and life insurance agent. Mikewardsc.com addresses his concerns of aging communities, older homes deteriorating and making sure the comprehensive plan for Irmo will help it grow.

Dan Newbanks, Erik Sickinger, and Kelly Busch are challenging incumbents Julius Waites and Mark Pouliot for their seats on Irmo Town Council.

3 referendum questions are on the ballot.

1. Should the town overturn the No Parking in the Yard ordinance?

2. Should the town bring back a property tax to provide more services

3. Should the town approve a Hospitality Tax to pay for more tourism-related events?
