5 tips to prevent memory loss

Have you noticed lately you are forgetting things?

Don’t know where the car keys are, your agenda, tv remote?

You may be experiencing memory decline.

Here are 5 tips to help prevent loss of memory.

Regular exercise with a minimum of 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise most days a week.

This helps keep adequate blood and oxygen supply to the brain.

Physically active people have a lower risk of mental decline and Alzheimer’s disease.

Challenge your brain with mental exercise with a new skill.

This helps maintain the health of the brain cells and stimulate them to communicate better.

Our 5 senses — sight, sound, smell, touch and taste all send signals to the brain via our neural pathways.

The brain interprets those signals to help us make sense of the world around us.

Get 7-9 hours of sleep nightly.

This helps your brain function correctly, allows healing, restoration, and clearing of toxins that can lead to Alzheimer’s and other dementia types.

Eat a healthy diet, such as a Mediterranean diet.

It is rich in fruits, vegetables, fish and whole grains.

Consuming this diet has been associated with a better cognitive function, especially in elderly people.

This regimen promotes better blood flow to the brain, reduces inflammation and may even provide nutrients and building blocks for brain cells and vessels.

As always, consult with your physician before making any changes in your diet, or physical routines.
