A juggernaut is born

Posted

We have had a lot of time to think over what has been happening to us the past few weeks.

The closest thing to this in modern history is probably the 1918 influenza. I first heard about the corona virus on late night radio.

Late night radio shows report events that become tomorrow’s headlines.

Actually, it happens quit a lot. The headliners break in the wee hours while the rest of us are sleeping long before they form into a really big news story.

In late January 2020, a juggernaut of a story was reported in this manner. It then took on a life of its own. I remember it happened just prior to Chinese New Year at the beginning of the Year of the Rat.

I have been keeping a journal of events and clipping news stories. It has quickly turned into a huge undertaking.

Was Hernando de Soto a victim of a pandemic? In September 2017 I wrote about his travels. One segment of his journey was recorded in the De Soto Chronicles describing his death and burial.

It actually reminds me of what is occurring with the corona virus. This could have happened to the Indians of the New World and to de Sota himself.

It has been accepted that the natives of the New World were wiped out in large numbers by unknown illnesses because they had no immunity to European diseases. De Soto himself was killed by a fever and was secretly buried in the Mississippi River.

After his death in May of 1542 of a fever, his army fled toward Mexico.

To conceal de Soto’s burial place, his body was dropped into the middle of the Mississippi River during the night.
