Air Force cadets to fly high with scholarships

Lexington District One students Collin Davis and Heath McDonald will take to the skies this year.

Davis, a senior at River Bluff High, and McDonald, a junior at Lexington High, received Chief of Staff of the Air Force Flight Academy scholarships.

Both are cadets in Lexington High’s Air Force Junior ROTC, led by retired Lt. Col. Bobby R. McDonald.

More than 1,560 cadets applied for one of 150 scholarships.

Valued at approximately $20,000, the scholarship covers transportation, room and board, academics and flight hours required to earn a private pilot’s license through the Flight Academy.

Those who participate in the program do not incur a military commitment to the Air Force, nor does completing the program guarantee acceptance into one of the military’s commissioning programs.
