Alfred Raymond McNeely

Alfred Raymond Mc-Neely, 84, husband of popular Civil War historian and author Pat McNeely, died Feb. 23, 2019.

Born in Greenville, the son of Annie E. Folker and John W. McNeely and one of 5 brothers, he was a graduate of Furman University.

He and his wife, who speaks frequently about her Civil War histories at the Lexington County libraries and at the Shepherd’s Center, were married 58 years.

McNeely was a former journalist and Columbia advertising executive who appeared in more than 25 community theater productions.

As a travel enthusiast, he had visited all 50 states, almost all of Europe, as well as New Zealand, Egypt, Russia and China. Ireland was his favorite country.

In addition to his wife Pat, he is survived by a daughter, Allison, a son, Alan, and grandchildren, Jordan and Julia.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Saturday, March 2 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
