Columbia Metropolitan Airport begins next phase of Checkpoint Expansion

Posted

The Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) began the next step of its multi-million-dollar checkpoint expansion on Sept. 30. Temporary walls will be installed by security screening and exit lanes, redirecting arriving and departing passengers near the area. Directional signage will be used to help the flow of traffic informing people where to go.

According to a press release from the airport, the first phase will last nearly 90 days while the second phase will last until early 2025. Construction will take place after hours, minimizing the disruption for passengers coming through.

When completed, the checkpoint will allow four lanes to be available, allowing more individuals to come through.

“Construction trucks and temporary walls are signs of growth, expansion and progress,” Mike Gula, president and CEO of CAE, said in a press release. “But as part of that needed growth and expansion comes inevitable pain points for our valued passengers, tenants, concessionaries and staff. The team is working diligently to ensure proper directional signage is in place to keep passenger traffic moving smoothly and with as little strain as possible.”
