All-Star Game features 6 Chronicle Country players, Dutch Fork’s Jones

Nearly 3 weeks have passed since Myles Jenkins and Malachi Reeves helped deny Dutch Fork head coach Bret Jones a return trip to the state finals.

The Gators defeated the Silver Foxes 45-43 in the Class 5A Lower State final played at Lexington High School. They went on 4 days later to upset 4-time defending champion Dorman 57-45 in the state champion at the University of South Carolina-Aiken behind Jenkins’ 31 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks.

On Saturday, Jones will coach the 2 newly-crowned Class 5A champions and Lexington guard Zavier Measter as part of the North-South All-Star Classic.

The event returns after a 1 year hiatus due to covid-19. Instead of Jones’ alma mater Lexington High School, Brookland-Cayce’s gymnasium will serve as the host site of the boys and girls doubleheader for the state’s top seniors.

The girls’ game kicks off at 1 pm and Jamison is the lone Chronicle Country representative. The 4 pm contest will feature the South team coached by Jones facing a North team with Gray Collegiate’s Chase McDuffie and Timothy Barnes.

McDuffie was originally selected to appear in the Carolinas Classic for Team South Carolina against North Carolina prior to the event’s cancellation due to covid-19 restrictions.

Fans will be allowed to attend the games with each player receiving 6 tickets.
