Regular season concludes this week for League 3 teams

A potentially frenetic final week of the SC American Legion baseball regular season could be in the cards.

With all 6 teams qualifying for the 1st round, teams are in a fierce battle for positionining. This was on display Monday night in Lexington County with a pair of high-scoring games.

Over at Roscoe Frye Field, Lexington held off Camden 14-10 to move within a victory of clinching 1st place and a 1st round bye. It needed just 1 victory in the final 2 games.

Lexington (10-2, 7-1) trailed 2-0 before taking the lead with 4 RBI walks in the bottom 1st as part of a 5-run rally.

After Camden cut the lead to 5-4, Lexington erupted for 6 runs in the bottom 2nd. The big blow came on a grand slam by Lexington’s Ryan Toll.

Lexington extended their lead to 13-4 in the bottom 3rd. Camden (8-3, 6-3) scored 4 runs in the top 5th and 2 in the top 7th to make it close.

Over at Brookland-Cayce High School, Chapin/Newberry outlasted West Columbia 10-8.

Chapin’s JP Hornick was a 1-man offensive show for Post 193/24. His 2 hits yielded 7 RBI, including a tie-breaking grand slam in the top 6th.

Airport’s Sam Lafrage had a solo home run for West Columbia (5-6, 4-5).

Chapin/Newberry (5-5, 5-3) was in a position where it could finish tied for 1st or 2nd place (it owns the head to head tiebreaker with Camden) or in a 3-way tie for 3rd with West Columbia and Aiken.

The 2nd place team out of League 3 faces Richland in the 1st round of the Best-of-5 playoffs starting Monday.

The 3rd place team will play host to the 5th place team out of League 5, while the 4th and 5th place teams face each other.
