Veterans were recognized with a Veteran’s Day dinner November 10 at the Legion Hut, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 7 hosted the patriotic occasion.

Veterans were recognized with a Veteran’s Day dinner November 10 at the Legion Hut, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 7 hosted the patriotic occasion.

Tables carried out a red, white and blue theme with decorations including American flags. Linda Griffith, President Unit 7, and David Griffith, Commander Post 7, welcomed guests and made introductions. Attending was retired veteran officer, Gary Baker. There was much patriotism with the pledge of allegiance, national anthem and songs from five branches of service. Mary Hazelton and Miriam Lovett provided piano accompaniment. Dorothy Tunstall, event chair, gave ALA Unit 7 mission/goals.

Prior to the delightful catered Turkey/ Ham dinner, Chaplain Barbara Leaphart gave a blessing. Special Speakers were Hoda Abdalla, LHS Senior who is 2018 Girls Nation President; Giselle Mota, WKHS Senior who attended Palmetto Girls State, and Ms. Ruth Mustard, Dorn VA Nurse Executive.

Framed certification of appreciation were presented to Sharon Willis, Veteran’s parade chair, Sara Bradstream and Lisa Wilson of Mobility Works, and to myself, for continued American Legion support. Jean Testruth and Marge Carter maintained the entrance desk for the many attendees.

Among the WWII Veteran’s present were Redd Reynolds, Murray Price, Hugh Rogers, twin brothers Raymond and Hamp Caughman, and Bill Mathias. It was a memorable event to honor those who served.

Guests were reminded of the Commanders Christmas Drop-In on Sunday, December 9, 3-5 pm, at the Hut. Donations will be received for Christmas gift cards to be given to needy Veterans.

Mission Lexington is presently preparing holiday food baskets for families in need. Mission Lexington needs canned collards, yams, cranberry sauce, corn muffin mix, dessert mix, turkey or ham (frozen, fresh or canned). You may drop off your food donations 9-5 pm at the office, 216 Harmon Street, Lexington.

There are some fun events coming up, like the Town of Lexington Snowball Festival, November 30-December

2. This includes a concert, carnival and tree lighting in Lexington Square Park, 6-8 pm November 30. There will be movies at the Icehouse Ampitheater December 1, 5-9 pm, and the annual Lexington Christmas Parade at 3:30 pm on December 2.

Also, That week and you are invited to celebrate Christmas with the Lexington County Choral Society, conducted by Hal McIntosh, November 30 and December 1 at 7:30 pm, at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church, Lexington.

Annie Mack of Lexington’s Senior Center announced the center will sponsor a soup sale November 16, 12:30 to 5 pm. There will be different kinds available, plus corn muffins.
