Many new Lexington District 2 graduates will start their 1st year of college this fall, Brookland-Cayce High’s Courtney Bingham will be closer to starting her 3rd.

The Brookland-Cayce Class of 2020 senior became the school’s first student to graduate from Lexington 2’s Early College program. The partnership with Midlands Technical College allows students to earn college credits – at no cost. Bingham graduated cum laude from the program, completing 19 college courses, 62 college credits and an Associate in Science degree.

She will participate in Midlands Tech’s December graduation ceremony and head to Charleston Southern University this fall with a goal of becoming a nurse anesthetist.

“I chose nursing because I love helping people,” she said. “Working with anesthesia, you see people in a vulnerable state. They are most likely scared. It would be my greatest joy to guide people during those trials.”

BROOKLAND UNITEDMethodist Church had a free clothing sale Saturday. Items given to those in need included: clothing, shoes, pocketbooks, blankets, hats, and accessories. Donations will be accepted by the church at 541 Meeting Street, West Columbia.

West Columbia is creating additional parking for the Riverwalk Amphitheater and Park. Construction of the parking spaces impacted traffic along Alexander Road last week. Motorists were asked to take an alternate route.
