Gaston Community Crime Watch and the South Division of Lexington County Sheriff’s Department teamed up with the Gaston Food Lion to bring a little happiness to area residents of Gaston, Pelion and Swansea by delivering Holiday Food Boxes to the G.P.S. Ministry on Meadowfield Road.
This has been an annual event for several years now, and I’m happy, as president of Crime Watch, that our group continues to participate in it.
Food Lion has been collecting for this cause to help feed the area residents by selling the food boxes. As of last week, it had sold close to 400 for the year.
“Their goal is 500 food boxes, which they should easily meet before Christmas,” stated store manager Shawn Fallaw.
Lexington County Sheriff’s Deputies Sgt. Ben Treaster, Sgt. Chris Mixon and resident Deputy Corey Hallman assisted with the transfer of the food boxes from Food Lion to G.P.S. Ministry, along with myself, Crime Watch Treasurer Randy Poole and Secretary Tabatha Alexander.
G.P.S. Ministry Director Helen King was on hand with a couple of her volunteers to help unload this year’s donation.
“We are so grateful for this each and every year,” King said.
