Talking Points

Our state is getting even steamier.

But it’s not the humidity.

A recent WalletHub report shows South Carolina is the 9th most sinful state in the nation.

That’s up 10 spots over last year’s 19th most sinful ranking.

The personal finance website looked at each state’s virtues and vices across 47 indicators of immorality. The data ranged from excessive drinking and gambling to violent crimes.

Here’s how SC ranked, with 1 being the most sinful:

• 4th – Anger and hatred

• 5th – Jealousy

• 18th – Excesses and vices

• 21st – Greed

• 14th – Lust

• 26th – Vanity

• 11th – Laziness

Our state also ranked 4th for most thefts per capita.

The most sinful states overall were Nevada, Texas, Florida and California.

The most saintly – maybe dullest – were Vermont, Wyoming, Idaho and Maine.
