A 130-year-old church is pretty impressive, especially when it started in a funeral home. Who could have ever imagined that in 1891, George Lindler’s funeral home was a good place to start a new church?

Mt. Horeb Lutheran Church in Chapin is celebrating 130 years. Pastors Ralph Hill and Joanna Cragg are currently the fearless leaders of this congregation.

Family fall fun can be found at the Lexington Clinton Sease Farm Pumpkin Patch. Go to clintonseasefarm.com for more information. The corn maze and hayrides would make great memories for family and friends.

Congratulations to Jonathan Crossland for catching the largest amount of bass on Lake Murray at the Phoenix Bass League Championship. He caught 15 bass, a total of 44 pounds for a yummy fish fry.

Congratulations to Jack Li, Alexa Hiranandani, Kate Dillon, and Allie Bickley are the Students of the Month at Chapin High.

Irmo and Chapin local playwrights will be highlighted in Chapin Theatre’s production on Nov. 5-6 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and are available at chapintheater.org

Irmo has a secret hero. Camile Brewer Williams lost her debit card in Irmo. An honest, wonderful unknown person found it and turned it into Walgreens. This act of kindness and integrity deserves to be acknowledged and praised. Whoever you are, we thank you for reminding us that good honest persons with integrity are alive and well in our community.

There are a lot of hurting and stressed people out there in our community. You could be a secret hero to someone who needs encouragement. Why not buy $10 gift cards from a coffee shop, Walmart or another store, place them in an envelope and give them out to strangers in your path who seem like they need a smile.
