Former Swansea High head football coach Greg Wright may remain off the sidelines this fall. In a brief statement Monday, Lexington District Two spokesperson Dawn Kujawa said the district has not received a recommendation to hire Wright. Brookland-Cayce head coach Rusty Charpia had announced plans to bring in Wright as a defensive coordinator on a voluntary basis. However, Wright was not present on the sidelines for the Bearcats’ 42-35 season-opening win over White Knoll. District 2 did not confirm multiple reports which stated their decision not to allow Wright in was based on the reasons given by District 4’s to terminate him as Swansea coach. Wright is suing District Four for $300,000, citing defamation and civil conspiracy in his termination. An Aug. 13 deadline for the district to respond to the lawsuit was extended, Wright’s attorney Lewis Cromer confirmed. Wright was assigned to work at Sandhills Elementary School in District 4 this year as a physical education teacher. Eric Pack made his debut as Swansea head coach Friday in a loss to Lower Richland. The Tigers play host to Gray Collegiate this Friday. Wright was unavailable for comment as of presstime.
