Playoff berths, with exception to a few Chronicle Country teams, remain up in the air as the regular season comes to a close.

The Dutch Fork baseball team split its 2 games with Lexington to maintain 1st place in Region 5-5A. It can clinch at least a playoff berth with a home win Monday against White Knoll.

The Wildcats can also do the same with a 2nd win over Chapin Thursday.

It’s a 3-way race in Region 5-3A baseball with Gilbert, Brookland-Cayce and Strom Thurmond. The Indians traveled to the Bearcats Thursday for the 2nd meeting this week.

In Region 5-4A, Airport is solidly in 2nd place and have clinched a playoff berth. In Region 3-2A, Gray Collegiate prepared for its stretch run with a “charter school” sweep this past Saturday at Lexington County Baseball Stadium. The 2nd ranked War Eagles defeated 4th ranked Legion Collegiate 5-4 in 10 innings, then beat Class 3A 3rd ranked Oceanside Collegiate 12-2.

In softball, Pelion clinched the Region 5-2A title this past Monday. Lexington looked to move closer to a region title with a win over White Knoll Tuesday. Region 5-3A has Gilbert and Swansea battling for 1st place and Gray Collegiate swept a doubleheader with Oceanside Collegiate Academy.
