Be the neighbor you want to have

Koon's Watch

Each of us plays an integral part in keeping our community safe, and this begins at home.

You can take steps to ensure your neighborhood is a safer place to live.

If you see something, say something. Remain vigilant; report suspicious activity and visitors to your local police department. Be able to recognize who lives on your road and identify who may not belong.

Prevent ease of theft. Ensure your car and house doors and windows are locked. Did your neighbor forget to close their garage? Let them know.

Don’t encourage curiosity. Ensure valuables are out of plain sight whether in your car or home.

Keep your neighbors informed. Going out of town? Ask a trusted neighbor to grab your mail so it doesn’t pile up, and let them know when to expect your return.

Don’t become a target. Sharing your upcoming vacation or large purchase | on social media invites criminals to take interest in your home while you’re away. Be cautious of what you post.

Take initiative. Install motion-sensitive lights and cameras on the exterior of your home. Many modern cameras can be conveniently monitored from an app on your phone.
