The University of South Carolina will once again have a significant presence on the Lexington County Blowfish roster.

On Wednesday, the team announced the signing of 4 Gamecock players for the 2020 season. The players and the numbers posted during the abbreviated spring season are:

•1B Wes Clarke (batted .286 with 8 HR and 22 RBI

•RF Brady Allen (batted .327 with 8 RBI

•P Brett Kerry (4-1 overall, 7 saves in 2019; 2-0, 1 save in 2020)

•P Andrew Peters (3 appearances in 2020)

“The Blowfish are appreciative of the wonderful relationship we have with the University of South Carolina baseball program and staff,” Assistant General Manager Justin Hall stated. “These young men will continue the great connection between Gamecock baseball and Lexington County.”

No Red Wolves on Blowfish schedule

Shortly after the Blowfish roster news was announced, Coastal Plain League rival the Florence Red Wolves revealed it will not compete this season.

“We are truly heartbroken to have to cancel this summer’s season, but after considering a number of factors, we believe it is the safest and most prudent decision for our fans, our host families, our players and our staff,” Team President Kevin Barth said. “Even though we have worked very hard to be ready for the season, and to make sure we have taken every precaution to keep everyone safe, if one of our players, fans, staff or coaches were to contract the virus during our season, we would never be able to forgive ourselves.”

“The health and safety of our fans, players, coaches, staff and sponsors is much more important to us than six weeks of summer baseball. We will be here next year and will be bigger and stronger than ever.”, General Manager Barbara Olsen said.

The CPL announced the postponement of the 2020 season to July 1 with a revised schedule with 25 home games. For the latest news, visit www.blowfishbaseball.com.
