Blowie invites kids to read online

The Lexington County Blowfish Baseball Club encourages Lexington County children to read at home during the school closures.

The Blowfish Reading Program enters its 16th year in 2020.

Tens of thousands of students have taken advantage of this free program since 2006.

Blowie’s Online Reading Challenge was launched this week, sponsored by the Lexington County Chronicle, Comporium, Lexington County Farm Bureau and Dave & Buster’s.

Parents can register their children using the online registration form on www. goblowfish.com.

The program will run through April 30.

“I missed going to every school in the county and seeing the excitement on the faces of my friends and Blowfish fans,” Blowie the Blowfish mascot told us.

“I wanted to find a way to get everyone reading from home.”

Students are asked to read a grade-appropriate book each week for 4 weeks.

On completion, the students will receive 2 free tickets to a Blowfish game this season, as well as a free Blowie Snowie Shaved Ice and a complimentary game of speed pitch.

After the challenge ends April 30, an online completion form will need to be filled out to confirm the number of tickets needed.

“The Blowfish organization is a strong advocate for children and literacy in Lexington County,” Blowfish owners Bill and Vicki Shanahan said. “We want to do everything we can to help our local students during this difficult time.”
