Brookland-Cayce, Airport renew 2-game regular season series

Posted

Two high school football teams very familiar with each other play at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Airport plays host in West Columbia to Brookland-Cayce. It’s the first of two meetings between the two longtime rivals, with the upcoming contest not counting in the Region 5-4A standings.

This marks the first 2-time matchup during the regular season since 2016 as the two teams are now in the same region.

Brookland-Cayce moved up to 4A this year after two seasons in Class 3A.

In last year’s meeting at “Fort Knox”, the Bearcats jumped out to an early lead and came away with the 42-21 win.

B-C has won the last two meetings, but trail the all-time series 45-29.

Both teams notched victories to open the season in Week Zero.

In the Eagles’ 49-35 win over Dreher, quarterback Brandon Caughman threw for three touchdowns and Nanders Lawrence added three scores.

B-C defeated Class 5A crosstown rival White Knoll 42-35. Quarterback Reed Charpia scored three rushing touchdowns, including the game-winner.

Running back Will Way rushed for 155 yards and Jo Pradubsri caught a touchdown pass and he had six receptions for 100 yards.

Airport and B-C will play again in region play before the end of the season.

The Eagles will make the 3-mile trip down Knox-Abbott Drive to Cayce to play the Bearcats on Oct.

26.
