A resourceful, unidentified cab driver helped Lexington County deputies stop a crime.

As a result, a Myrtle Beach teen is accused of trying to rob and kidnap the cab driver last Thursday.

Cabbie foils robbery, kidnapping attempt

A resourceful, unidentified cab driver helped Lexington County deputies stop a crime.

As a result, a Myrtle Beach teen is accused of trying to rob and kidnap the cab driver last Thursday.

Blake Austin McGrath, 19, was charged Jan. 8 with armed robbery, kidnapping and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

“Based on information we gathered at the scene,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said, “McGrath booked the taxi for a ride home to Myrtle Beach.

McGrath pulled a gun and threatened to shoot the driver, Koon said.

The driver got away after he pulled into a convenience store parking lot near I-20.

McGrath is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.
