AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

The Cayce Public Safety Foundation is one of the nonprofits selected for the 2019 Midlands Gives project.

Each year, Midlands Gives brings the Midlands communities together to raise money and awareness for nonprofits during an annual 18-hour online giving challenge.

I hope you were able to donate to the foundation, which wants to build a K9 Memorial on State Street in the area soon to be known as “The Art Lot.”

A woman reported missing April 29 was eventually located, according to the West Columbia Police Department. The department had asked for the public’s help to locate the woman who was last seen at the Southern Heritage Assisting Living. She walked away from the facility and was gone for about 12 hours. The woman had a medical condition that required medication.

Swansea High School Basketball star Danae McNeal was recognized at the SC State House April 30.

“It was my pleasure to welcome Danae Mc-Neal to the State House today, and present her with a resolution congratulating her for being named Gatorade Girls’ Basketball Player of the Year for SC,” said state Sen. Nikki Setzler. “Well done, Danae, You make Lexington County proud.”

McNeal’s other awards include: USA Today South Carolina Player-of-the-Year in 2018; South Carolina AAA Player-of-the-Year in 2017, 2018; and Class AAA All-State in 2016, 2017. She has signed to play college basketball for Clemson University.

Get ready for the Providence Presbyterian Community Yard Sale 2019. It is hosted by Providence Presbyterian Church May 11, 8 am -1 pm. The church is at 1112 Hummingbird Dr, West Columbia.
