Cafeteria earns grade of 100

Forts Pond Elementary cafeteria employees received a grade of 100% for the 12th time from its DHEC inspection. Congratulations!

Mr. Shealy’s 5h graders are 45th in the nation, 2nd in state, and 1st in the district in the First in Math program.

Fifth graders visited Pelion Middle School May 1 in preparation for their move from elementary to middle school. All Pro Dads and Mallard Moms will hold a breakfast May 24 at 7 am in the cafeteria.

Pelion Elementary celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week last week. The PTO provided lunch for teachers and staff and muffins and coffee. State testing for students in grades 3-5 began May 8 and ends May 17. Makeup tests will be the following week. Parents are encouraged to have their children at school on time every day. Please do not make appointments during the day on testing days.

The PTO Spring Dance will be May 10 at Pelion Middle School gym, 6-8 pm. PES first graders will visit Columbia Marionette Theater May 10. PES students will honor their mothers the morning of May 13 with muffins, juice, and coffee at 7 am in the cafeteria. Mothers are invited to attend.

This year’s Pelion High graduates will return to Pelion Elementary and Forts Pond Elementary May 17 for their Grad Walk. They will walk the halls of their elementary school and be cheered by students at both schools on this special day!

Pelion Library Poetry contest winners are: Adult first place Andrea Williamson (I am a Wave); Adult Honorable Mention Cheyenne Beasley (A World of My Own Creation); Middle School first place K. C. McDaniel (The Waves); Middle School Honorable Mention Connor McGee (Wonders of Blue); Overall Best Poem in Show Teresa Balleza (Ol’ Smokey). Thanks to Scott Frye, retired PHS English Faculty, for being the host for the awards night.

Pelion Library will host Yarn Art May 11 at 10 am. Spine Crackers Book Club meets May 15 at 3 pm.

Pelion Senior Center members will visit Healing Springs Edisto Grocery and Grill on May 14.

Lexington District One offers a summer food service program Mondays through Thursdays. Forts Pond Elementary will serve breakfast 7:45 to 8:30 am and lunch from 11 to 12:30. The program begins June 10. Children must eat on site. Meals are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. FPES will be closed the week of July 4.
