Situated at the end of a steep set of stairs smelling of new lumber is Cayce's newest access to the Congaree River. 

It's right behind H. Kelley Jones Park off Riverland Drive and is ideal for kayakers and tubers. 

"Making this a true community-based project, Cayce leaders worked with West Columbia Businessowner, Michael Mayo; the River Alliance; and Martin Marietta to finalize the development of the new access point. Parks staff used gravel from Martin Marietta and repurposed other materials from the City to pave the area behind the H. Kelley Jones Park down to the Congaree River," according to a release from the City of Cayce. 

It has around a two-hour float time from the West Columbia Ampitheater. 

The new access point was a “true family-friendly addition to the Riverland Park community that benefits everyone across the region that wants to enjoy spending time on the Congaree River," Cayce Mayor Elise Partin said in the release. 

This project was made possible through  hospitality tax funding, according to Cayce Interim City Manager Jim Crosland. 

“The funding is going right back into the community and is providing greater access and a new recreational opportunity for our citizens and visitors," he said in the release.

When visiting the new access point, families and individuals can also traverse the walking trail right next to it and there are plenty of seating areas suitable for picnics, but these seating areas do not have visibility of the water. So, parents cannot monitor their children in the water from the picnic areas. 

Visitors can park at H. Kelley Jones Park located at 2616 Riverland Dr. in Cayce.
