The 12,000 Year History Park and the Cayce Riverwalk have gotten some improvements.
The City of Cayce has installed new interpretive wayside exhibit signs along the history tour trails in the history park and riverwalk to educate visitors about the rich history in Cayce.
23 signs have been installed already, and 5 more will be added soon.
Marketing spokesperson Ashley Hunter told the Chronicle that the goal is to create an “outdoor museum.”
Each display will feature some historical site or event and give details on what happened there.
There are 4 different tours offered at the history park: A Civil War battle site, Fort Congaree, a Native American tour and a natural history tour.
The project was truly a group effort. The exhibits were commissioned by the River Alliance, designed and installed by the SC State Museum and funded by the Central Carolina Community Foundation and the City of Cayce.
The Foundation received a $30,000 Connected Community Grant, and Cayce used $10,000 in Hospitality tax funds.
The trails are all handicap accessible.
