The City of Cayce has officially announced the opening for the position of police chief.

The position will be open to applicants for three weeks after which the Cayce Human Resources department will screen each applicant to ensure they meet the minimum requirements. The applicants will then appear before a board that is made up of Cayce City Council members, staff of the City of Cayce and leaders from law enforcement, the community and local businesses.

The police chief “administers and oversees all operations of the Police Department for the City of Cayce, including police, dispatch, animal control and park rangers, supervises senior command staff and other staff to ensure that all departmental operations are properly maintained and implemented, ensures the maintenance of a positive and cooperative relationship between the department and the community it serves, performs related professional, supervisory, and administrative work as required and reports to the City Manager/Assistant City Manager,” the press release said.

Those interested in applying to the job must possess a valid state driver's license with a strong vehicle record and a S.C. Criminal Justice Class One certification.

For the position, the city also prefers that applicants have senior leadership experience, SCCJA instructor certification, community-oriented police training, experience and/or training with public speaking and diversity and de-escalation training.
