Cayce, West Columbia plan festivities

Posted

West Columbia’s 2nd Annual Kinetic Derby Day will be Saturday, April 27.

Later that day, Cayce will host the Soiree on State.

The West Columbia City Council has agreed to allow Richard Skipper, C-WC Chamber of Commerce executive director, to move the chamber’s beverage permit for the Rhythm on the River Concert from Saturday to Friday evening, April 26.

Skipper said the Chamber has booked the popular musical group Brian Conner and His Amazing Friends. He expects a large turnout.

Skipper said the Chamber recorded its largest crowd of the year in 2018 with the musical group Tokyo Joe at the West Columbia River-walk. Tokyo Joe will play Soiree on State in April.

The move for the Chamber keeps the Rhythm on the River concert from conflicting with Soiree on State, an event being held in Cayce, on April 27.

Kinetic Derby Day includes a parade of kinetic sculptures – human-powered, handmade floats that highlight the community’s pride and creativity.

This is followed by adult and child soapbox derby racing with booths featuring local artists and vendors selling arts and crafts.

Food trucks will serve tacos, hoagies, ice cream and more.

Kids have lots of activities.

Skipper said the Brookland Brunch will be presented Sunday, April 28, from 10 am to 2 pm at the Riverwalk Amphitheater.
