Chapin children celebrate reading with 'Adventure Begins at Your Library' party

Children celebrated the completion of their summer reading goals at the Chapin Branch Library on Aug. 6. The “Adventure Begins at Your Library” program promoted the joy of literacy with several types of free entertainment for families.

Inspired by Mo Willems’s book, "Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus," free hot dogs were provided, along with chips, water and popsicles. Kids were also given an opportunity to engage with several small, cuddly creatures in the petting zoo. Activities such as face painting and balloon animals were popular, as well as learning about the importance of kindness with Henry the Hedgehog from Mission Lexington.

“Adventure Begins at Your Library” lasted from June 1 through Aug. 10. Children kept track of their reading by using the Beanstack app or a paper tracking card. When they completed their goal, they earned a string bag filled with age-appropriate gifts such as stickers, water bottles or stuffed animals. The names of those who completed the program will be entered into the grand prize raffle for a new tent. The winner will be contacted at the conclusion of all the branch libraries’ parties.
