Kim Mitchell is relieved.
The Chapin resident has learned that Baby Harlee, an 11-month old infant recently found dead in a diaper box, will have a funeral to honor her short life.
The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s office said that the family would pay for the funeral. Harlee’s story hit home when Kim heard it on the news.
“I was heartbroken when I heard it,” she said.
“This baby deserves a proper funeral. I have had infertility issues, suffered three miscarriages and have no children of my own.
“I would like to think if I were in this situation, someone would bury my child if I couldn’t afford it,” she said.
She called the Chesterfield County Sheriff to see what she could do and started raising funds to give the baby a proper burial.
She has learned the family has stepped forward and will have a private funeral for Harlee. “We are supposed to take care of each other,” Kim said, “and I wanted to help give her a proper burial.”
Because of the pain of losing their child, the family asked for a private funeral without the media involved.
