On July 15, the Chapin Talon 11U baseball team won the Global World Series championship at Tyger River Park in Spartan-burg.

It was the second straight title for the Talon, who won last year as a 10U team. The Chapin Talon 11U is a travel baseball team organized through Crooked Creek Park, and is comprised of boys from Chapin.

The Talon baseball mission is to better prepare Chapin boys for Chapin middle and high school baseball. The boys are coached by Adam Phelps and he is assisted by Joe Cromer and Greg McGlohorn.

The Talon began the tournament by going 3-1 in pool play. After losing the opening game on Day Two, Chapin won the next four elimination games and even defeated top seed Pro Prodigy out of Taylors.

The Talon went on to defeat UBA 7-2 in the championship game to finish 7-2 in the tournament.

The Midland Dixie Youth Baseball club sent five teams to the state championship tournaments.

The undefeated Coaches Pitch team, ages 6-8, and Minors team (ages 9-10), emerged as champions and will compete in their respective Dixie Youth Baseball World Series this weekend in Lumberton, N.C.

The Coaches Pitch World Series is set for this Saturday, while the Minors will start competing Aug. 4.

The T-Ball team, ages 4-6, placed third overall in the first-ever South Carolina tournament. The Ozone team (ages 11-12) finished 4th in the state.
