Columbia International University has opened its new School of Business.

Last Friday, school officials, dignitaries and guests filled the William H. Jones Center for the dedication of the building to Dr. Bill Jones, the CIU Chancellor.

CIU President Mike Smith spoke of CIU’s vision for the school as well as the community. The School of business is a great leap towards fulfilling the growing demand for a Christian-based education, he said

Smith commended Mash-burn Construction for completing the building on budget and a month early.

Richland County Councilman Paul Livingston and Columbia City Councilman Sam Davis spoke about how much CIU’s presence and cooperation in revitalizing the Monticello Road area has meant.

Lyn Cook of CIU and Tobin Cassells of Southeastern Freight Lines spoke almost reverently about Dr. Bill Jones and his visions for the Business School.

Dr. Jones stirred the audience with his remarks about his long time involvement with CIU.

Jones was presented the Order of the Palmetto from Gov. McMaster.

Dr. Scott Adams of Lexington, dean of the business school, closed the ceremony with prayer. Adams is well known in Lexington County for his involvement in business and community affairs. He has served in key leadership positions with business, civic and educational organizations including director of Christ Central Medical Care, chairman of Lexington Chamber of Commerce, vice chairman of Midlands Technical College Foundation, and board member of Mission Lexington.

Adams has 30 years experience in law and executive management for major international law firms and corporations including Prysmian Cable in Lexington.
