Jarrell Boyan, 29, of Columbia, was sentenced to 7 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to deprivation of rights under color of law.
On Oct. 6, 2016, Boyan was working as a Lieutenant with the South Carolina Department of Corrections at Kirkland Correctional Institute in Columbia.
While on duty, Boyan used a shank made by the victim to stab the victim several times.
Subordinate officers looked on and physically restrained the victim as Boyan repeatedly caused injury to the victim.
The victim sustained 4 stab wounds to his abdomen and punctures to his kidney and liver.
The victim received immediate medical attention, but he has required additional surgeries.
Boyan authored a false report of the incident and directed his subordinate deputies to do the same.
