County still safe from corona virus

Health officials are learning more about the corona virus by the day.

There are now 11 confirmed US cases, up from 5 last week. The number of suspected cases continues to rise.

People in 36 states are under investigation of having the virus. 82 cases are still pending.

None have been reported in Lexington County or South Carolina.

Around the world is a different story. The virus is already on 4 continents with France and Germany now reporting confirmed cases.

New evidence suggests the corona virus could have an incubation period of up to 14 days. That means someone infected with corona virus could be contagious for 2 weeks before they experience symptoms.

The Center for Disease Control in Atlanta, and SC Department of Health and Environmental Control are developing protocols if it shows up here.

Dr. Lachin Hatemi of Veritas Health Group and other healthcare professionals agree the current strains of influenza pose a far greater risk for us in Lexington County. The flu virus kills over 60,000 people in the US every year.

If you have not already done so, get a flu shot now. If you experience any flu or cold-like symptoms, seek medical help immediately.

For everyone’s sake, stay home if you are sick.
