Courage Center unveils teen addiction resource

Lexington’s Courage Center is doing even more to help those fighting substance misuse and addiction.

The Recovery Community Organization has created a 12-week mentor program for young people to receive recovery support and learn life skills.

TRIBE: Tapping into Resources of Integrity, Belonging and Education, will launch its 1st cycle Sept. 3. Each cycle will be limited to 20 participants.

“When teens get involved with substance use, their mental, emotional, and physical development is stunted,” said Hunter Welch, The Courage Center’s community outreach coordinator and primary architect of the program.

“With TRIBE, we look to create a program that fosters healthy growth by introducing vital living skills they may not learn at home or school, new friend groups, and guidance from trained recovery coaches.” The TRIBE Program:

• Offers transportation assistance for participants and their parents/caregivers.

• Is designed for adolescents and youth in transition, ages 14 to 20.

• Is 2 evenings per week for 12 weeks.

• Participants’ parents/ caregivers are expected to engage in weekly Parent Group meetings.

• Participants are eligible for weekly incentives.

• Specific indicators will be measured weekly to quantifiably assess participant progress and program impact.

• Limited funds are available through The Courage Center’s Journey to Recovery Fund to assist with clinical assessment and treatment costs if recommended.

• Each session will be taught by a subject matter expert.

• Positive recreation is a significant component of the TRIBE Program.
