Billie Bright's long battle with covid ended last Saturday night.
According to the Irmo Police Department, Bright had served as their chaplain since August of 2020.
"There was no such thing as a stranger to Billie," Chief Bobby Dale said.
"In this line of work, we were fortunate to have such a person like Billie for our police officers and the community to rely upon during a world pandemic."
Town Administrator Courtney Dennis, who formerly served as the Irmo police chief, said Bright's smile was contagious and he was always uplifting others.
"One of my proudest days was when I asked him to join our team. I knew that he would impact each of us in some way," said Dennis.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Billie's family. We're thankful for the continued support and prayers we are receiving from the community as we mourn Chaplain Bright."
