Covid risks to unborn babies

Having a little bundle of joy is such a wonderful thing.

But planning baby showers and parties are a thing of the past.

Since our pandemic has begun, we are limiting contact with others.

More importantly, someone who is pregnant should be.

Pregnancy changes your immune system, which makes you more susceptible to illness.

There are no known studies that suggest you are more prone to covid because you are pregnant.

With other corona viruses besides covid, miscarriage, pre-term birth, stillbirth and more severe infections have occurred in pregnant women.

The World Health Organization studied 147 women. 8% of those women developed severe covid-19 symptoms, and 1% were critical.

There is no definitive evidence that you can pass covid to your baby.

Symptoms of covid occur between 2-14 days after exposure.

Common symptoms are cough, fever, shortness of breath, fatigue, chills, sore throat, headache, loss of smell/taste and muscle aches.

Not everyone experiences all of these symptoms.

Stay hydrated with water or low-sugar drinks.

Get plenty of rest.

If you develop a fever of 100.4 or higher, take Tylenol.

Stay home as much as possible and avoid contact with others.

If your fever still persists, you have difficulty breathing or start vomiting-contact your doctor right away.

If you develop symptoms of covid, contact your doctor right away.

As always, consult with your obgyn/physician before taking any medicines or treatments.
