Crossroads Middle School Academy for Innovative Learning teacher Wanda Pearson has been selected as a 2026 Teacher of the Game honoree.

The program, presented by Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union in partnership with the University of South Carolina’s Gamecock Athletics, recognizes outstanding South Carolina educators during Gamecock football home games.

“I am incredibly grateful for this honor and proud to have represented the educators who make a difference in our state, district and community,” Pearson said in a news release. “The recognition was announced over the stadium loudspeakers and displayed on the scoreboard, making it a truly memorable experience for me and my family.”

Pearson was recognized on the scoreboard and loudspeakers during the University of South Carolina vs. University of Tennessee football game on Saturday, Oct. 24. In addition to the in-game recognition, she also received $1,000 from Palmetto Citizens and four tickets to the game.

“We are so proud of Wanda Pearson who exemplifies what it means to be an educator who believes in every student’s potential,” Crossroads Middle School Principal Erin Doty said. “Her dedication to making learning accessible and building students’ confidence makes a lasting impact, and we are proud to see her commitment recognized through this well-deserved honor.”

Located in the town of Irmo, Crossroads Middle has a Columbia address and is part of School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties.

Launched in 2023, the Teacher of the Game program celebrates the vital role of South Carolina educators.

“Founded nearly 90 years ago by Midlands-area educators as the Columbia Teachers Credit Union, Palmetto Citizens remains dedicated to education and community support,” a news release says.
