Tartan Days, other events canceled

Scottish Highland Games fans will be disappointed.

Founder and organizer John Banks was forced to cancel Tartan Days South due to COVID-19.

Last Saturday’s Shamrock Parade in Lexington was postponed. A new date will be announced later.

Other closings and event postponements or cancellations here include:

• All bars and restaurants must close their dine-in services. Delivery and pickup are still allowed.

• Riverbanks Zoo has been temporarily closed through March 31.

Zoo events have been postponed or rescheduled.

• Libraries are closed until further notice.

• The annual Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic has been canceled. Refunds will be issued for those who bought tickets online.

• Budweiser canceled the appearance of its Clydesdale horses, according to the Town of Lexington.

• All events in March at the Icehouse Amphitheater have been postponed.

Town Halls closed, courts delayed

• Lexington Town Hall will restrict public access to the building and will conduct business through alternate means for the next 2 weeks.

• The City of West Columbia parks, community centers, playground equipment, tennis courts, picnic shelters, and restroom facilities are closed until further notice.

• The Town of Batesburg-Leesville canceled planned events and closed parks, public facilities, Town Hall and fire stations but left the police department open.

• State court hearings may be rescheduled or held remotely. People called for jury duty who believe they have flu symptoms or are concerned about exposure can seek a delay in jury duty.

• Lexington County offices located at the County’s Administration Building, 212 S. Lake Drive, will no longer allow the general public to enter until further notice.

• Lexington County court appearances April 2-3 have been postponed to May 7-8.

Lexington County Clerk of Court asks pickup or submission of child-support payments, fines, fees and paper filings for circuit and family courts at the drive through window at the Westbrook Judicial Center.

Probate Court filings will also be accepted through the drive-through window.

• The teachers’ group SC for Ed has canceled a march on the State House March 24.

• The SC Department of Corrections has suspended all visits at its correctional institutions for 30 days.

Universities go to online classes

The University of South Carolina has closed campus housing, extended spring break by a week and canceled classes in favor of online classes until April 3.

Clemson University will go to online-only classes, but the campus remains open.

Columbia International University extended spring break a week and postponed its Mar. 17 John Maxwell Leadership Forum.

Columbia College will move all classes online and closed residence halls.
