Dead children’s mother pleads for mercy

Posted

A convicted killer blamed his wife for making him kill their 5 children.

Yet Tim Jones, Jr.’s ex-wife Amber Kyzer asked 12 Lexington County jurors to grant mercy for Jones.

She also said she would be okay with what the jury decides — life or death.

11th Circuit Solicitor Rick-Hubbard told jurors about a phone call between Tim Jones, Jr., his father and his father’s wife from prison.

“I feel like I am insane,” Hubbard said he told them.

“He says, ‘I snapped.’

“So you see you can put this one on Amber.”

“3 months after he killed his kids... he blames Amber. He blames [his son] Nahtahn,” Hubbard said.

“It is that man manipulating his family ... he is reaching for you,” Hubbard told the jurors. “Feel bad, feel guilty for me.

“He left them for the wild. He left them to rot.

“If you have any inkling of doubt, look in those bags,” Hubbard said holding up a photo of the black bags containing the children’s remains at the dump site.

In closing arguments, defense attorney Casey Secor asked the jurors, “How much more death does this family have to endure?”

Other family members asked the jury for mercy.

“Severe punishment is necessary, but show compassion,” Secor said.

Secor said Jones’ father feels guilt for his son.

“You can tell him it is not his fault by sentencing Tim to life without parole.”

Secor said Jones’ grandmother who raised him also blames herself.

“You can tell her it is not her fault. Amber came here for mercy. You can honor that. You can determine he will never leave prison.

“The death penalty is not required in any case. There is no such thing as an automatic death sentence.

“He can be safely housed in prison without hurting anyone ever again. The law empowers you to vote for life for mercy alone. Bestowing mercy on Tim is bestowing mercy on the family that loved these children.”

The jury sentenced Jones to die by lethal injection or electric chair, whichever Jones requests.
