Unvaccinated people pay a high price.

A majority of severe covid cases are not fully vaccinated, research shows.

Among the 760 reported covid deaths in the county, 589 (77.5%) were not fully vaccinated.

Lexington Medical Center reported 9 covid patients have died since Sept. 28, down from 25 a week ago.

49 covid patients are being cared for, down from 67 this time last week and 192 the week before.

46 of those are unvaccinated and 3 are vaccinated.

21 covid patients are in intensive care, up from 20 last week. 20 are unvaccinated and 1 is vaccinated.

Department of Health and Environmental Control officials report 149,738 unvaccinated cases in the state.

The Chronicle has asked DHEC to provide numbers for Lexington County,

Among the 1,993 reported cases in the county where we were able to determine vaccine status, 85.8% of cases were considered not fully vaccinated.

Among the 1,771 reported cases hospitalized with covid, 1,277 (72.1%) were not fully vaccinated.

Among the 411 reported hospitalized with covid and fully vaccinated, 388 (94.4%) had pre-existing medical conditions.

Among the 143 reported covid deaths of those fully vaccinated, 138 (96.5%) had pre-existing conditions.
