We’ve all experienced stressful moments.
They come with tightening of the chest, shortness of breath, feelings of isolation, and anxiety.
If these sound familiar, you may have too much stress in your life.
You owe it yourself to find healthy ways to cope.
If you are experiencing those symptoms, try these self-care practices:
• Go for a walk. This will reduce stress and burn calories.
• Read a book. Reading takes your focus off your worries and allows your imagination to work.
• Get a massage or take a hot bath. This can relieve muscle tension that often accompanies stress.
• Try yoga. Some people swear by it. There are different styles for beginner, intermediate and expert levels.
• Do something you enjoy. Whether it is going to get a manicure, shopping or some other entertainment, treat yourself.
• Write. You can focus on the present or past and let all of your emotions out through words. You may find it to be therapeutic.
• Sing or listen to music. I was in Chorus for years and still love to sing. Don’t be embarrassed, belt out those tunes!
• Talk to a friend. It could be a best friend or a loved one that you trust. Allow them to listen to your story, and ask for feedback.
• Be diet-conscious. Eating clean can keep stress levels down. Avoid sugary or fatty snacks. Eat more omega-3 fatty acids.
