Dutch Fork football recognized by national publication

The dominance of 3-time Class 5A football champion Dutch Fork was not exclusively recognized in the Palmetto State.

According to USA Today High School Sports, the Silver Foxes were among the best high school teams both regionally and nationally. The publication ranked Dutch Fork 2nd in its final Southeast Regional poll behind IMG Academy out of Florida and 9th in the Super Expert Top 25 national poll.

The Silver Foxes were among the most active teams in the Top 25 poll. They moved up 16 places in the poll over the course of a 13-0 season in which it outscored opponents 771-131, scored 50 or more points in 12 games, posted 4 shutouts and extended the longest in-state winning streak by a public school team to 25 games.

In addition, Dutch Fork dominated the American Family Insurance ALL-USA South Carolina Football Team. With head coach Tom Knotts earning Coach of the Year honors, the first team featured Offensive Player of the Year quarterback Ty Olenchuk and offensive lineman Kameron Stewart, Irmo running back Kendrell Flowers and Swansea linebacker Greg Williams.

Dutch Fork wide receivers Jalin Hyatt and Gage Zirke made the second team.

“It’s a tribute to what we’ve got going on,” Knotts said. “I don’t think we’ll miss a beat next year. I’m looking forward to next year already. We’ve got to replace lineman. We’ve got guys who are ready to step in. So we’ll see.”
