Wayne and I hope you will be able to attend the 61st Lexington County 4th of July Peach Festival. This week we have information about the festival, including the parade and entertainment that awaits you. Bring your family and friends and spend the day in Gilbert. Admission is free and parking at Gilbert Primary School, Gilbert Elementary School and Gilbert High School will be $5.

The Lexington County Peach Festival officially begins at 9:30 am with a fly over the town and parade route by one of Bell Aviation’s antique airplanes. After the parade, the annual Morning Program will begin at 11 am at the Gilbert Community Park Amphitheater. Craig Coelho will sing the National Anthem, and Al Harman will give the official welcome and introduce the honorable dignitaries and guests. During the Morning Program, the winners of the parade and the Peachy Recipe contest will be announced and the new 2019 Lexington County Peach Queens will be introduced.

If you love music there is a variety of musicians and bands who will perform throughout the day at various locations in the park. Entertainment this year includes: Carter Lybrand, Ryan Trotti, Shelby Raye, Whiskey Run, Tokyo Joe, Pine Ridge Boys, and Chino the Great.

The annual antique car show hosted by Pack 60 Scouts of Gilbert will be held in front of Gilbert Middle School. Awards will be given for the “Best of Show”, “Top 20” trophies, “People’s Choice” and “Scouts’ Choice.”

Gilbert Community Club volunteers will have several stations in the park selling barbecue plates, hamburgers, hot dogs, and their famous Peach Slush drinks and peach ice cream. Over 100 vendors will be selling their handmade crafts, paintings, and jewelry, along with vendors who will have other items.

The Peach Festival will end with a fantastic fire works display at 10 pm at Gilbert Primary School. We are told the fireworks will be spectacular.

The Lexington County Peach Festival is sponsored by the Gilbert Community Club and proceeds from the festival are used to support the GCC, the Gilbert Community Park and other community civic organizations. The festival also provides scholarships to local student volunteers.

Shiloh United Methodist Church invites you to its July Lunch and Learn July 9 from noon until 1 pm. This month’s topic will be Superstitions of Lexington County and the Dutch Fork area. The cost is $10, which includes a catered meal. Call 360-7586 for reservations. The church is at 1000 Springhill Road off of US 378.
