Fatherhood program needs your help

The Midlands Fatherhood Coalition of Lexington each year celebrates the graduation of Fatherhood and DSS Parenting participants.

Due to budget cuts, this ceremony is in danger of being canceled.

The Completion and Awards Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 19, at 5:30 pm at Lexington Town Hall, 111 Maiden Lane.

The evening includes a meal for participants, their guests, and community partners, community awards and graduation recognition, and children receive midyear school supplies and holiday gifts.

Local parents participate in father-focused programs and weekly peer group sessions. These provide assistance, education and support to help men be responsible fathers for their children.

The sessions focus on parenting and co-parenting, building healthy relationships, job readiness, economic stability, men’s health and personal development. All services are provided free of charge.

MFC is the only non-profit in the Midlands with more than 18 years of experience delivering services and support to help fathers overcome the barriers to being a responsible, involved father.

“Our purpose is to strengthen families and reduce poverty through father engagement and involvement,” said Frederick Hogsett, Jr., Site Manager of Midlands Fatherhood Coalition Lexington.

For more information, contact Hogsett at (803) 996-2114, fhogsett@midlandsfathers.com , or visit the office at 943 East Main St., Lexington.
