Frag attacks threaten your data

Have you checked your devices for software updates?

Keep an eye out for updates on any which wi-fi enabled devices in the coming weeks.

New York University researcher Abu Dhabi revealed weaknesses in wi-fi’s design. Some of the vulnerabilities have been around since 1997. That was when the first wi-fi standard debuted.

These vulnerabilities would be difficult to exploit in their current forms. But you need to update and patch your devices once stable updates are released.

What is at risk? The name “frag attack” is short for fragmentation and aggregation attacks. Frag attacks focus on the way wi-fi splits up and re-assembles data.

The best way to protect yourself is to update wi-fi-enabled devices. This includes your home wi-fi router firmware. You should also update the software of any devices which connect to it like your cell phone or laptop.

It may take a while for stable updates to release for your devices.

Need help updating your router or another device? Check out the manufacturer’s website or your user manual for instructions. Search for the model number on the manufacturer’s website.
