Funeral home helps sports anchor’s family

Caughman-Harman Funeral Home is raising money to help Bob Shields’ family.

The veteran TV and radio sports anchor is at home under hospice care, said Daisy Harman of Caughman-Harman’s Lexington location.

Shields has worked for the Lexington funeral home and Dunbar Funeral Home in Columbia which also is helping with fund raising.

Shields, 58, was WLTXTV’s sports director for 30 years. He had been receiving chemotherapy and radiation since a diagnosis of a cancerous tumor behind his eye.

“The doctors told him there’s nothing else they can do,” Benji Norton, a friend and radio colleague, told The State newspaper.

“His mind is sharp as a tack,” Norton said. “He was singing songs and all the lyrics were right.”

Those who want to make a donation to help his family should call Caughman-Harman at 803-359-6118.
