The Red Cross is experiencing critically low levels of blood supply.Monday you have an opportunity to help alleviate that issue by giving blood at Red Bank United Methodist Church, South Lake Drive at Old Barnwell Road 2-7 pm. Call the church at 359-4031 for information or visit www.redcrossblood.org to register to give. Remember to hydrate and eat your vegetables this week so that your blood is the best it can be.

February 1 a new Boy Scouts of America troop was chartered at Red Bank UMC as a Scouts BSA troop for girls. It’s one of five forming throughout the Indian Waters Council after last year’s changes to allow girls to participate. The core curriculum is the same as the regular BSA troops have been using for many years, with the same ranks, badges, and awards. Lori Norris, who has been assistant scoutmaster for Troop 518 for seven years, is the new scoutmaster for Scouts BSA Troop 9518 at Red Bank UMC.

Congratulations to Carolina Springs Elementary 2nd grade teacher Andrew H. Luangxay and White Knoll High science teacher Deidre G. Pukl for being among the finalists for the Lexington District One Teacher of the Year.

Happy Valentine’s Day my own very Valentine of the past nearly 26 years; dinner and some roses just don’t seem like enough but they’ll have to do for this holiday.

Happy birthday to Mac McMakin, Teresa Boatwright, Lyle Moore, Taylor Faircloth, Sarah Wilson, Jeff Tindall, Brenda Cook, and Susan Backman.

Happy Anniversary to Larry and Brenda Keisler, Rob and Carla Bedenbaugh, and Jimmy and Annette Jordan.
