Independence day

Lake Murray celebration: 30th annual Independence Day celebration, “Cheers to 30 Years”, will begin with the annual boat parade at noon June 30 and end with a fireworks show at dark. The parade can be watched from the SCE&G park sites at the Dam, the walking path on the Lake Murray Dam and by boat. At dusk, fireworks will launch from two lake locations, Dreher Island and Spence Island. This year’s show will last for 30 minutes in honor of the event’s 30th year. 246TH ARMY BAND: The 246th Army Band will perform a free concert at Icehouse Amphitheater on June 29, 7 p.m.. Features traditional military selections, a throwback to the jazz age, the sounds of New Orleans and beyond, and rock sounds ensure there’s something for everyone.

Coco: Aug 17 8:30 p.m. at Icehouse Amphitheater watch a screening of Coco Free! This movie is rated PG.

Star*Struck: This Summer’s Pop-Culture Event hosted features a free movie (in the vein of Stranger Things rated PG-13), music, popcorn, food trucks, vendors and prizes at the Ice House Amphitheater. Celebrate Lexington County’s Meals on Wheels volunteers and take a trip back in time with this 80’s themed fun night out. Admission is free, but they will accept canned food donations. The evening begins June 15 at 7 p.m. - the film will begin at 8:30 p.m.

The Darkest Hour: Aug 24, 8:30 p.m. at Icehouse Amphitheater. Watch this free screening of The Darkest Hour. This PG-13 is a war drama film is about Winston Churchill’s early days as Prime Minister.

Tom Petty Tribute by WOMG: June 28, 7 p.m. Join WOMG as they celebrate their second birthday and kick off the Independance Day weekend early with a free tribute to Tom Petty at the Icehouse Amphitheater. Concert will feature Josh Roberts and the Hinges, and other guests. This is an all-ages show.

Murders and Mysteries: Free guided walking tour of downtown Lexington June 23, 8 p.m. Learn about some of the murders, trials, and other crimes that ocurred on Lexington’s Main Street in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Tour begins at the Icehouse Amphitheater and will last about an hour. Special Needs Ski Event: June 22, Special needs individuals and their families will spend a day at Lake Murray enjoying waterskiing on an adaptable ski, tubing, and kayaking at Woodmen of the World at 2000 Johnson Marina Rd, Chapin from 9 a.m. until after lunch. Lunch (with ice cream dessert) will be provided. Special needs children over the age of 6, adults, their families and siblings are welcome.
