It’s a chilling ghost story with a twist!

A husband and wife don’t simply move into a haunted house — they build one. “The Invited” by Jennifer McMahon is the October read chosen by the Adult Book Club members of the Gilbert-Summit Branch Library. Each month, the members vote for one book from a list they want to read. Perfect for Halloween, “The Invited” will be discussed by book club members this week. Louise Taylor, Librarian at the Gilbert-Summit Branch Library, said they have many Halloween books and DVD movies for children. Taylor said Storytime in the Gilbert Community Park will continue weekly until the second week of November. Children and teens met this week at the library to learn how to create and write their own ghost and scary Halloween stories. They were taught about the writing process and what it takes to write a creepy story.

Many activities for children and adults at the library. Call 803-785-5387 for information.

The second and last tour of the former Gilbert High School building was held last Friday, Oct. 22. Tommy Hood organized the tour through the Lexington School District 1 office. Susan Woodward Wright worked with Hood to advertise the event. Hun dreds of former GHS students, staff and faculty met once again to tour their classrooms in the GHS building. Many GHS alumni who could not attend last summer came to the second tour. Hood requested former GHS teachers come for group photos at 5 p.m. In 2022, the two-story GHS building will be torn down. Adjacent buildings to the school will remain for future use. Tim Oswald, a Lexington School District 1 board member, said the old GHS second story building would be extremely costly to repair.

Happy birthday to: Ron Krepps, Laura Price, Michelle Deering, Barbara Krepps, Anette Weed, James Rosson, Abigail Binkley, Cindy Price, Sue Stacey and Abigail Shull.
