Historic Lexington office sold

Dr. James C. Steele practiced medicine at 401 W. Main Street in Lexington for years before his death on July 1, 2018 at age of 94.

Last week NAI Columbia announced that John Gregory represented the estate of Marie Steele in selling the 3.49 acres for $600,000.

The new owners and plans for the property were not immediately available.

In April 1956, Steele set up the Main Street practice with Dr. Albert Thomas.

Tracy Steele said, “We’re thankful to John Gregory and his team at NAI for finding someone who appreciated the site not just for its development potential but also for the historic and sentimental value of the over 100-year-old home.

“May the new owner and his family form as many happy and long-lasting memories there as my siblings and I did in the years it was part of our family.”

The house is 2,600 square feet and, NAI said, may qualify for historic abandoned building tax credits.

“The property features a rare development opportunity with frontage and direct access to West Main Street.”
