The resolution recognizes the importance of partnerships between businesses, grocery and convenience store employees and the role each plays in the success of our communities.

AMERICAN LEGION Post 101’s new officers are Mark Bays Commander and Edwin Pearson, Jr. Vice Commander. Installing Officer was 2nd Vice Commander of SC Robin Rucker, who gave an update on projects the Legion has outlined. A proclamation from the Town of Pelion declared Sept. 16 as the American Legion Day in town.

During the Ruritan meeting, the American Legion presented certificates of appreciation to Sammy Jackson, Steve Neese and me for our service to the Legion’s activities.

The legion will host a fundraiser at the Sonic in White Knoll Sept. 26 11 am - 3 pm. Visit the Sonic and drop some dollars in their bucket. The Sonic will give 10% of proceeds to the legion. Dollars will help wounded veterans, families of the wounded and/ or killed in action, and scholarships for their children.

The town millage change I reported last week will not reduce taxes. The state requires a rollback millage in a reassessment year, which was done by Lexington County for the 2020-21 tax year. The town had a millage of 18.3 so the town was required to drop back to 17.0 to offset the increase in property values due to the reassessment.

Pelion girls tennis plays at Williston-Elko Sept. 8 at 5 pm. JV/V volleyball plays at Wagener-Salley Sept. 9 at 5 pm. Girls tennis plays at White Knoll Sept. 10 at 4:30 pm.
